EU Commission choses the members of the EU Platform on Animal Welfare

FOUR PAWS included in the EU Commission’s Platform on Animal Welfare.

15.5.2017

The international animal welfare organisation FOUR PAWS is pleased to announce that it has been selected for membership of the EU Platform on Animal Welfare. The aim of the 'Platform on Animal Welfare', launched by Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis, is to “promote an enhanced dialogue on animal welfare issues at EU level among competent authorities, businesses, civil society and scientists”.

"FOUR PAWS has been asking for the creation of this platform for months. It is now time for the European Union to make a new start in leading improvements for the welfare of animals in Europe and abroad. The EU will have to take bold decisions in the future, and consider the work that has been done already but also the work which still has to be done. We are looking forward to contributing actively in this journey."

Pierre Sultana, Director of the FOUR PAWS European Policy Office

"This nomination represents an acknowledgement of the quality of the work done by FOUR PAWS over the years, both at the national level in many countries, and in Brussels. We thank the Commission for their trust, and we are looking forward to contributing to the platform by working with representatives of Member States and EU institutions, and with the other stakeholders involved in the Platform."

Adolfo Sansolini, FOUR PAWS expert at the Platform

The Platform is composed of 40 members representing business and professional organisations, NGOs and independent scientific experts. Animal welfare organisations will be represented by FOUR PAWS International, Eurogroup for Animals, Animals’ Angels e.V., Compassion in World Farming, European Forum for Animal Welfare Councils (EuroFAWC), Humane Society International, Organisation for Respect and Care of Animals (ORCA), RSPCA International, World Animal Protection and World Horse Welfare. The first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 6, June 2017, in Brussels.
